About

Welcome to Piston & Polish, an independent car-care guide for owners wherever they drive. Whether you cover your miles on wet British lanes, dusty outback roads or icy Canadian highways, and whether your gauge reads PSI or bar, our aim is the same: to help you understand your car, look after it well and feel confident when you talk to a workshop.

We started Piston & Polish because a lot of car-care advice is either too technical to follow or written to sell you something. We wanted a calm, practical place where ordinary drivers can find clear answers without the jargon and without the sales pitch.

What we do and why it matters

Our guides cover the everyday side of owning a car. That means the jobs you can safely do yourself, the signs that something needs a professional, and the facts you need to make sensible decisions about your money and your safety. We write for drivers in every country and climate, so we give measurements in both miles and kilometres, PSI and bar, and we point out where local rules or conditions may change the advice.

Our mission is to help you:

  • Understand maintenance: what your service schedule actually means, why fluids and filters matter, and how often common jobs tend to come round.
  • Spot warning signs early: dashboard lights, unusual noises, smells, leaks and changes in how the car drives, plus guidance on when to stop and get help.
  • Look after paint and tyres: safe washing and drying, protecting your finish from sun, salt and grime, checking tyre pressures and tread, and understanding wear patterns.
  • Avoid unnecessary upsells: knowing which extras are genuinely useful and which are often added to a bill without real need, so you can ask the right questions with confidence.

Good maintenance is not about spending more. It is about spending wisely, catching small problems before they become expensive ones, and keeping you and your passengers safe on the road.

Meet the Piston & Polish Team

Our guides are written by the Piston & Polish Team, a group of car-care writers who care about getting the details right. Before we publish, we check our guidance against owner’s manuals and official safety sources, such as national road-safety bodies and recognised vehicle standards. Where advice differs between makes, models or regions, we say so plainly rather than pretending there is a single answer for every car.

We also review our guides over time. Vehicles, materials and safety recommendations change, and we would rather update an article than leave outdated advice online. If you spot something that looks wrong or unclear, we genuinely want to hear about it: our contact page or hello@voxevanloi.net.

Our independence

Piston & Polish sells nothing. We do not stock products, run a workshop or take commission on parts. We do not endorse brands, and when we discuss products we talk about types and features, such as pH-neutral shampoo or a digital tyre gauge, rather than telling you which label to buy. That way our advice stays focused on what helps you, not on what earns us money.

A note on safety

Everything on Piston & Polish is general information designed to help you understand your car. It is not a substitute for your owner’s manual, which contains the specifications, intervals and procedures for your exact vehicle. Always follow the manual first, and where our guidance and the manual differ, the manual wins.

Some jobs are safety-critical. Brakes, steering, suspension, airbags, fuel systems and high-voltage components on hybrid and electric vehicles should be inspected and repaired by a qualified mechanic. If you are ever unsure whether a job is within your skills, or whether your car is safe to drive, please stop and get professional help. No saving is worth the risk.

Thank you for reading, and happy motoring. We hope our guides help your car stay healthy, shiny and safe for many miles, or kilometres, to come.
